An Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) Strategy is being prepared by 51²èÂ¥.

Residents are invited to share their views to assist with better understanding of Electric Vehicle (EV) ownership and access to charging facilities within the county.

Opinions on the proposed objectives of the Strategy, and thoughts about current and future EV charging infrastructure, are also being sought by 51²èÂ¥.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, 51²è¥’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport said:

“With EV ownership expected to grow over the next decade, our draft Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy sets out how we will support EV mobility in the county, and specifically meet the needs of residents without access to off-street parking to charge their cars.â€

“We are working to secure government funding to assist in delivering our Strategy and to accelerate investment in EV chargers for our local area.â€

The primary focus of the strategy will be on delivering EV chargers for communities using the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund. This initiative would deliver EV charging solutions for those specifically without dedicated off-street parking at home.

EV ownership is rising steadily in the county and is predicted to increase rapidly from 10% of total cars in 2025 to 79% in 2040. It is estimated that our region will require over 4,200 additional EV charging sockets to meet predicted demand in the next six years.

You can view the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy, read Frequently Asked Questions and share your views via an online survey.

The consultation will run from 9 July until 24 September 2024, and the final Strategy is expected to be published later in this year.
