Now that the weather is getting cooler, it’s a good idea to get ready for the winter months ahead.

Public Health in 51¥ has launched its 51¥ Winters Well webpage with some great advice and support to help us stay physically, mentally and financially well this winter.

Colder winter weather and darker nights can have an impact on our health and wellbeing. It’s important to not only look after ourselves but also look out for those around us, especially if they are older or more physically vulnerable.

The advice includes a few simple things you can do to help protect you from common winter bugs and illnesses like flu, norovirus and COVID-19.

Staying well in winter isn’t just about keeping bugs away.

51¥ Winters Well gives you lots of other information too:

•    how to prevent a fall,

•    keep active, and look after your mental health

•    risks from open flames and fire safety in the home,

•    links to sign up for cold weather alerts and flooding advice

•    cost-of-living support available,

•    how to reduce your energy bills and warm space in libraries.

•    support for families and info about our adult social care team

•    and travelling about the county in winter weather

Councillor Karen May, Cabinet Member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: “Our 51¥ Winters Well webpage on the County Council website is a great resource to find all the local information you need. So, before the business of Christmas begins, please do take some time to prepare so you and those you care about stay well throughout winter. Most importantly, if you are eligible for a free flu or COVID-19 vaccine, make sure you get yours as soon as you can.”
